798 is a free art exhibition centre which stretches over a vast piece of land. Housed there are many art exhibitions and galleries in the numerous halls and houses.
If you're someone into art, this is definitely the place to be seen and heard.
If you aren't the sort, fear not. Feel free to make your way down and just take some time to chill and enjoy the art pieces and sculptures and idle your day away. Its pretty cool to be identified with such valuable pieces of art. I mean, its quite cool to just relax after a hectic work. Even I can even appreciate the tranquility of the surroundings and efforts of the artist, how difficult can it be for you to do the same? Feel cultured and arty farty for the moment. It makes one (at least I do) feels more intelligent. Immerse and absorb the emotions that overcomes you with each image/sculpture.
Hurry and trot down to 798!
Different exhibitions end at different dates. If you feel that you too can make valuable contributions to the Beijing art scene, please contact the person in-charge! I will gladly go support your opening if I'm still in Beijing. Haha.
They have this shop, Happy Sheep Art Area, selling lifelike animal figurines which were pieced together using real animal remains (e.g. the fur, teeth and almost about everything that could be preserve) which had been injected with some chemical solution. Only the eyes were artificially recreated but looks really lifelike.
There was another shop that had paintings of 1 girl in many scenes. At first glance, I thought the images was printed from a printer cause it looked too fine. It was on closer inspection that I observed the lines painstakingly drawn to such a defined extent that looks like it was simply snapped and printed from a printer. Man, the artist has superb skills.
There are really plenty more impressive stuff for one to see. Too bad I didn't manage to finish even half the area.
You have to go see it for yourself to appreciate the beauty of the art pieces.
I should go back there another time. I don't even think 1 day is sufficient to finish touring the entire place.
By the way, they sell this really cool musical thing. I have no idea what its called but I so nearly bought it until I bulked at the price. In my collage above, its the 1st picture on the 4th column. They have this really cool song which I forgot the title too.
I need ginko pills.
