unwind rewind

后海 (Hou Hai) is Clarke Quay. Wait, Clarke Quay is Hou Hai.
Ok, you get the idea.

Basically, Hou Hai is pretty similar to Clarke Quay with pubs lined up along the "reservoir". Its a pretty sight at night with the mixture of colours from the neon lights illuminating the signboards. There are plenty of pubs with live bands that performs covers mainly in mandarin. Chinese Pop to be exact. I did not hear any singers doing English covers myself or perhaps I have forgotten about it.

Prices are comparable to pubs back home. A Tsingdao beer cost 30RMB, Carlsberg cost 40RMB. Hard liquor ranges from 50-70RMB and beyond. For all you people (like me) who aren't use to touting, you might want to prepare yourself as the people will literrally follow you everywhere you go. However, not every single pub is hmm, decent. For those pervy friends out there; you will be able to find your share of eye candy here (I hope). Apparently, there are touters who will approach you telling you about how their shop offers “小姐”.

Note of caution: Before entering a particular shop, always ask if there's a minimum expenditure (最低消费) cause some shops do impose the rule and clarify if the different seating zones have different prices too. One shop we almost entered told us that the prices for the sofas and the usual seats are different so you might want to be careful.

Go there if you are feeling slightly rich as drinks are not that cheap. Otherwise, a occasional chilling session to unwind is pretty awesome there. Provided you find the right pub with the right mix of music for you.
